Head Coach

Samantha Cotter has been working with the SCSU Equestrian Team since Fall 2010, taking over as head coach in the Spring 2012 semester.

As an equitation instructor for over 15 years, Coach Sam has taught at several facilities throughout New York and Minnesota, specializing in hunt seat equitation and teaching riders new to jumping. She also brings plenty of IHSA experience to our team.

Sam competed as an undergrad, earning 8 trips to regionals, and a top five placing at Zone Championships, along with multiple high point and reserve high point rider awards.

Sam lives in central Minnesota with her husband, 2 daughters, and a handful of fur-kids.

Assistant Coach

Alyssa Maurer has been riding on the SCSU Equestrian Team since fall of 2017. With 10+ years riding experience in dressage, hunters and jumpers she earned a spot riding equitation on the flat and over fences with the team.

Since starting the team she has qualified for and won her class at regional championships and went on to compete at Zone championships.

Alyssa plans to continue helping coach the team after graduation along with continuing to give riding lessons, teaching karate, and pursuing a career as a health and physical education teacher.
